The official incorporation of the City of Franklin took place in 1799. The action came about due to the efforts of Abram Maury Jr. Later a state senator, Maury is interred in the family’s plot in what is now known as the Founders Pointe neighborhood.

For the first part of the 19th century, Franklin’s economy thrived on tobacco and hemp farming.   Livestock also served as one of the main drivers of the local economy. In the later years of the century, the area was home to a number of smaller homes.
