Located in Williamson County, Brentwood is home to more than 45,000 people. As a suburb of Nashville, it’s considered part of the Nashville metropolitan area. The origins of what would become Brentwood go back to the late 18th century.

After the end of the Civil War, the large plantations were replaced with a series of smaller farms. Over time, tobacco became the crop of choice, and helped the area to rebound as the 20th century arrived. While affected by the Great Depression, the city and its residents enjoyed a relatively low unemployment rate and was able to continue operations of most of its businesses.

The advent of the automobile aided in the city’s growth. People who wanted to live outside the growing city of Nashville found Brentwood to be a welcome change. Within an easy distance, many still commute daily into Nashville for work.

Brentwood is known for having a number of parks for people to enjoy. Many of the contain areas set aside for outdoor sports, including swimming, tennis, baseball, and football. Some of the more notable parks are Concord Park, the Deerwood Arboretum and Nature Area, and Marcella Vivrette Smith Park.
